James Monroe was one of the most qualified men to ever hold the position of President. His extensive resume included service in the Revolutionary War, the Continental Congress, and the U.S. Senate. Monroe also served as governor of Virginia, filled numerous diplomatic posts, and held two cabinet positions. His success as a great president and politician was because of hard work and determination . Monroe was known for his integrity, frankness, and likable personality. As President, Monroe saw the country through a transition period where it turned away from European affairs and toward U.S. issues. He was known as the man that set us free, he truly made the U.S. its own country with the signing of the Monroe Doctrine, adding more states to the Union and purchasing land and moving hostile Indians out.
